Vaia Giannopoulos, age 81, of Manchester, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a brief illness. Mrs. Giannopoulos was born in Kastraki, Greece on February 18, 1929 the daughter of the late Nicholas and Ellen Zevou. She immigrated to NH in 1951 and married Arthur Giannopoulos in November 20, 1955. She worked at the Waumbec Mills for 25 years as a spinner. She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and enjoyed cooking, gardening and knitting along with traveling to Greece to visit family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and yia yia. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur and her son Alexander along with her son-in-law Edward H. Chalmers Her family includes her daughter Ellen Chalmers of Manchester; three grandchildren David, Alex and Nick Chalmers; three sisters and several nieces, nephews and brother-in-laws in Greece. There are no calling hours; the service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2010 at St George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover Street, Manchester. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. George Cathedral. Please visit www.goodwinfh.com to sign the online guest book.
