Albra Magoon Pollard, 72, of Candia, NH, died at her home July 26, 2010. She was born August 17, 1937, in Manchester, the daughter of John and Albertina (Jackson) Magoon. A graduate of Manchester Central High School, completed a Bachelors Degree at Clark University, Worcester, MA and she attended Boston University School of Social Work. Mrs. Pollard had been a caseworker for Children's Aid Society, now Child & Family Services, Associate Director of Northern New England Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, manager of Merribee Needlecraft, Manchester and she had been the activities director at Carlyle Place, Bedford. Her husband Alan J. Pollard died in 2006.
Her family includes daughter, Judith Ann Pollard of Candia, NH, son, Jon Alan Pollard and his wife Anne Marie Kielbasa of Wakefield, MA, sister in law, Beverly May of Boxford, MA, brother in law, Jonathan B. Pollard, Jr. of Portsmouth, NH , three nephews and one niece. Mrs. Pollard has resided in Candia since 1971. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Manchester where she taught Sunday school and worked in the nursery. She had been a member of Order of Rainbow for Girls (Worthy Advisor; Grand Faith ), Order of Eastern Star Ruth Chapter #16, past Worthy Matron, AARP and Prime Time. She co-founded the mother's group for Boy Scout Troop #120 and founded Krafty Companions – Ladies of Knights Templar fund raising group supporting New Hampshire Commandery projects. She enjoyed dog related activities, knitting, crocheting, making afghans for children in need, being with friends and most of all her family.
Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. in Goodwin Funeral Home 607 Chestnut Street corner of Harrison Street, Manchester.The funeral service is Friday at 10 A.M. in the funeral home. A committal service will follow at the mausoleum at Pine Grove Cemetery 765 Brown Ave., Manchester.
